DV Wins Big at the HP Big Data Hackathon 2015

August 27, 2015

13 very capable teams, 9 hours, 6 coffees (each), millions of rows of unknown data, online data mining for additional datasets, projections tuning, data decryption, data analysis and a lot of queries, 1 Splunk to rule them all, and a 2 minute presentation (with a lot more offline presentations for all the enthusiasts) brought DV the respect and the win of the HP Vertica Big Data Hackathon 2015. Oh, and laptops for all team members.

Earlier this month hundreds of the smartest engineers and data scientists gathered in Boston for the HP Big Data Conference. Part of this event included Hack Day, an 8 hour event where HP called for the smartest engineers, architects, developers, data scientists, designers, database ninjas, DevOps warriors, IT admins and tech-savvy business folks to create an app that would wow the crowd and give the winners bragging rights to bring home to their companies.

And DV won big.

DV competed in a 9 hour battle to produce the most interesting combination of insights-to-wow-factor, utilizing large (real world) datasets that were provided by Vertica, combined it with formal online datasets and produced awesome data points and graphs that were presented in real-time, accessing a tweaked database with projections made for those uses and great performance.

It was an incredible achievement for our team and they are already excited for the next one. If you can relate and want to join a team like this, where you can stretch your digital prowess and impress the top data scientists in the industry, you’re in luck….we're hiring! Check out our career postings and maybe you will be a winner at next year’s Hackathon.
